Silent Splendor

Located near the Manitou Cliff Dwellings in Colorado Springs, Silent Splendor Cave of the Winds Mountain Park is one of the premier show caves in the United States. It is home to rare crystalline speleothems. It is also home to unique flora and fauna.

The first major exploration of the cave was in June 1880 led by Arthur B. Love. He discovered the entrance to the cave during a hiking trip with clergymen.

The cave’s official website accepts the traditional account of the first entry. The story was told for a century. It involves a schoolboy named John and George Pickett who discovered the cave on a candlelit hike. They left hair clips and trinkets on a ledge. This is believed to bring good luck.

In addition to cave tours, the park offers several aerial thrill rides. The park includes Bat-A-Pult, Terror-Dactyl and Geronimo’s Leap. Geronimo’s Leap is a balancing challenge climb. It’s a fun activity for all ages.

Cave of the Winds is located at the base of Pikes Peak. Its parking lot offers a great view of the surrounding terrain.

The park is made up of a main section with a large souvenir shop and a dining room. There are also several activities that are available for extra fee.
